This optional coverage reimburses
you up to a fixed amount to tow your disabled vehicle to a licensed
repair location. Auto insurance policies do not cover towing or a
rental car unless you request it and pay an additional fee. The
extra fee is usually small but it can really help if your vehicle
is damaged or disabled. If you add towing coverage
to your auto’s policy, the insurer will pay reasonable expenses
incurred for:
- towing your car to the nearest place where necessary repairs
can be made during regular business hours
- towing your car out if it is stuck on or next to a public street
or highway
- mechanical labor up to one hour at the place of its breakdown
- change of a tire
- delivery of gasoline, oil or loaned battery, not including
the cost of the items
Check with your auto insurance company for more specifics on towing
coverage.
Another option for towing coverage is to become a member of a roadside
assistance club or motor club like AAA .
