Truck accidents account for about 15 per cent of total road accident costs. Road traffic growth, road transport industry deregulation, and the changing corporate culture of the road transport industry have exerted increasing work pressure on truck drivers. Truck drivers' qualifications, training, and licensing are therefore important elements of road safety policy. This report reviews OECD Member countries' regulatory practices and training structures. The most recent surveys and new technological developments are presented. The study provides guidance for governments and transport industry managers on training policy and programs. |
