Things to Consider When Choosing Your Arkansas Insurance Company:

The Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission offers a helpful checklist of things to be aware of when signing a contract with an insurance company.

There are many things a consumer in Arkansas should be aware of while doing business or entering into any contract, most of which involves the application of sound judgement and good comon sense.

CAREFULLY read any contract before signing. NEVER let someone “tell” you what the contract says. TAKE YOUR TIME in making your decision. New motor vehicles are more than just a casual purchase, they are investments that should be carefully thought through before signing the contract. Secure copies of all paperwork prepared by the dealer agent in the contractual process. Be sure that your contract (before signing) includes all of the extras, special features, additional accessories, or anything agreed upon during your negotiations.

When you have decided upon a vehicle, whether new or used, there are several questions to ask yourself depending on your situation. A few key considerations before your purchase would be:

  • Is this the vehicle I really want, can easily afford, or practical for its intended use?
  • Does the vehicle, sales price or financing appear to be “too good to be true,” if so, it probably is.
  • Think about the purchase overnight. You should never be pressured into buying a vehicle on the spot. If it has to be purchased TODAY…perhaps you shouldn’t.
  • There is NOT a three (3) day return policy mandated by Arkansas Law for new vehicle purchases according to our Attorney General’s office. The dealer may or may not offer such a policy, if there is one offered make sure you have the terms in writing.
  • Remember to always expect your business transactions in writing and you fully understand the terms before signing. Never sign a blank contract.

Consumers can file complaints with the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission regarding New Motor Vehicle entities and their sales, management and finance staff which are licensed by the Commission. If it becomes necessary for a consumer to submit a complaint there are guidelines that must be followed in order to properly process the complaint. The Commission has prepared an Advertising Complaint Form and a General Complaint Form to aid in the proper preparation and submission of documents.
